Tonight’s question, greetings, and banter here. (More)
Today Michael Avenatti said he won’t run for president in 2020 and Joe Biden all but said he will, with an official announcement to come within a couple of months. But the big buzz was about Republican state legislatures’ “constitutional hardball,” a euphemism for attacking democracy itself, based on a ‘Confederate’ worldview that “the democratic process cannot legitimately change the established social order” and thus “the current Republican party would be perfectly happy for the United States to become a full-on hybrid regime.” Will the U.S. ultimately need some drastic measure, such as proportional representation, to restore our democracy?
