This week I signed up to make GOTV calls for Andrew Gillum, the Democratic nominee for governor. I’ll also continue to make calls for Sen. Bill Nelson’s reelection campaign. Contrary to the shoddy analysis of the National Journal’s Josh Kraushaar, the first post-primary poll found Gillum leading God-King acolyte Ron DeSantis by 5 points, while Sen. Nelson leads Rick Scott by only 1 point. Florida pundits are saying the enthusiasm for Gillum will help Nelson, and Nelson doesn’t think Gillum is “too progressive” for Florida voters:

“You characterize it as being to the left. You look at his positions, they’re mainstream: strengthening education, pay teachers, clean up the environment,” Nelson said. “Go through all the issues and I think that’s where the people of Florida are.”

They reportedly plan to hold several joint rallies with state Attorney General candidate Sean Shaw. I think a ‘Democratic slate’ strategy is an excellent idea, and I’m proud to support all three candidates.
