Today Gizmodo’s Dell Cameron reported that the National Guard soldier who this week stole an armored personnel carrier and led police on a chase before being captured was an ‘anti-Social Justice Warrior’ Tor coder who sought funding from an alleged rapist, but fellow Tor coders are dismissing his past misogynistic comments as attention-seeking pranks. That fits with Sady Doyle’s marvelous essay on the ‘Cassandra Rules’ that are applied to reporters who reveal the very common connections between online misogyny and violence. Is it harder to solve a problem when gatekeepers insist these men are all ‘lone wolves?’
