Tonight’s question, greetings, and banter here. (More)
Today the God-King pulled out of the six-nation agreement to limit Iran’s nuclear program and called it “a great embarrassment” while citing an Israeli intelligence report whose only ‘news’ was an already-known weapons program that Iran abandoned 15 years ago. The Week’s Ryan Cooper explains why the arguments to pull out of the deal are based on lies and raw aggression, while the Washington Post’s Anne Gearan and Karen DeYoung report that the God-King’s sanctions will pit the U.S. against Britain, France, and Germany, who pledged to honor the agreement and New York Magazine’s Eric Levitz reminds us that this will complicate negotiations with North Korea by proving that the U.S. cannot be trusted to honor commitments. Will this mean, as Martin Longman writes, “the complete collapse of American leadership on the global stage?”
