Tonight’s question, greetings, and banter here. (More)

Today the God-King signed the compromise government spending bill after threatening to veto it because it doesn’t fund his precious border wall (although he claimed that was all about not protecting Dreamers). But the news was dominated by the God-King’s appointment of John Bolton as National Security Advisor, a post that does not require Senate confirmation. Bolton is a hardline ideologue eager for war with Iran and North Korea but, while New York Magazine’s Heather Hurlburt thinks Bolton’s ineptitude may limit his damage, Lawfare’s Matthew Waxman says Bolton’s brutal bureaucratic skills make him even more dangerous. With yet another zealot who ignores evidence and thinks “there are few international problems for which war is not the answer,” does Bolton’s appointment “push the United States closer towards a dangerous war?”
