Tonight’s question, greetings, and banter here. (More)
Today CNN reported that then-FBI Director James Comey gave his July press conference on Hillary Clinton’s email server because of a faked email exchange between then-Attorney General Loretta Lynch and then-DNC Chair Debbie Wasserman Schultz, and that Comey knew that the emails were fabricated by Russian intelligence but feared they would be leaked and expose the FBI’s investigation into Russia’s meddling in the 2016 election. Or, as Scott Lemieux put it, “the Russians can’t ratfuck the election if we ratfuck it first!” Meanwhile, the New York Observer reports that NSA Director Mike Rogers told his staff “There is no question that we have evidence of [the God-King campaign’s] election involvement and questionable contacts with the Russians,” and the Daily Beast’s Michael Tomasky reminds us that the people feeding reporters almost daily leaks are ‘law and order’ professionals in the FBI, CIA, and other such agencies. Oh, Texas Gov. Greg Abbott joked about shooting reporters two days after Montana GOP House candidate Greg Gianforte beat up a reporter, which many other Republicans cheered. And the God-King said “The Germans are very, very bad” because they sell cars, most of which are made here in the U.S. In order to halt the corruption and violence that threaten our democracy, must the media abandon both-sides-ism and acknowledge that Republicans have broken our politics?
