Tonight’s question, greetings, and banter here. (More)
Today the Out House released the God-King’s proposed budget and Office of Mangle the Bastards chief Mick Mulvaney declared “this is a hard-power budget, not a soft-power budget” that will eliminate dozens of programs for the working poor because “They don’t work.” But actual empirical evidence shows many of those programs do work, and the God-King’s proposed military spending spree itself could fund all of those programs for decades or centuries. The Washington Post’s Philip Bump offers a hypothetical look at how this budget would affect a working family, and No More Mister Nice Blog’s Steve M. suggests God-King wants to inflict pain and misery to implement Strauss and Howe’s The Fourth Turning, but Lawyers, Guns & Money’s Erik Loomis reminds us that most of this budget is straight off the GOP-Heritage Foundation wish list. Do America’s children and working poor really just need a steel-toed, jack-booted kick in the balls to motivate them to get rich?
