This week I called my U.S. Senators and U.S. House member to voice my opposition to the American Wealthcare Act. My senators’ staffers were sympathetic, but my rep’s staff said they were “protecting Medicare.” That’s a complete lie, as the 2010 Affordable Care Act’s taxes extended the life of the Medicare trust fund and the Wealthcare Act will repeal those taxes. But Republicans want to replace Medicare with a voucher system, so they see bankrupting the Medicare trust fund as a feature, not a problem.
I explained this to my rep’s staffer … and he simply insisted none of that was true. I don’t think my call mattered to him, but at least he and my rep are on notice that we know they’re lying.
