Tonight’s question, greetings, and banter here. (More)
Today on Face Press This Sunday Union, White House Sewer Director Reince Priebus said we “should take it seriously” when the God-King declares the media “the enemy of the American people.” But Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) said “That’s how dictators get started” and Rep. Adam Schiff (D-CA) called the phrase “something that you hear tin-pot dictators say,” while Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) said “the backbone of democracy is a free press and independent judiciary,” even as he said criticism of the God-King was “almost to the point of being hysterical.” Should we be grateful for Graham’s half-a-loaf, even if the other half was salted with too-often-ignored sexism?

It’s a start. Not much of one, but a start. No president in American history, not even George Washington, has not had issues with the press. However, they’ve all had the understanding that “my enemy” does not mean “enemy of the people.” Trump seems to think that the two are synonymous, which is egomaniacal at the very least, and very, very dangerous.
In other news, the internet is having lots of fun with the terrorist attack in Sweden. 🙂
Well, conservatives insist the God-King never actually said “terrorist attack,” and that he was referring to the “cultural genocide” because immigrant families now occupy most of Sweden’s public housing. In other words, Sweden is no longer 100% white … and that’s a tragedy….
I am not sure if we can afford to subject potential Republican allies to a purity test. If Lindsey Graham wants to vote to defend the constitution I would over look his isms problems. If he is just talking he scores no points with me.
Yes, “hysterical” is a sexist term. It derives from the Greek word for the womb — thus the term “hysterectomy” — and the word “hysteria” was a medical diagnosis for decades. The symptoms were being upset, while female. Because a woman’s anger or frustration, usually with her husband, must be due to ovulation or menstruation or menopause or a yeast infection or … something female.
In short, “hysterical” means “on the rag.”
And even beyond the sexism, Sen. Graham is simply incorrect that the media as whole have been “almost to the point of hysterical” about the God-King … unless “almost to the point of hysterical” means “factually reporting on his delusions, narcissism, authoritarianism, incompetence, and corruption.”
Some in our media are actually being the public watchdogs that a free press should be. If doing so makes them “almost to the point of hysterical,” perhaps that’s because the God-King is so … testosteronical.
And the fact the fact that I had to invent a word to attribute his behavior to his testicles — while Sen. Graham used “hysterical” probably without even knowing that it attributes a woman’s behavior to her womb — is why I highlighted the sexism.
