A new poll suggests more Americans trust the God-King than trust the media. But the God-King’s plans suggest otherwise…. (More)
In a poll conducted by Emerson College and published Tuesday, 49 percent of registered voters deemed the new administration – which has come under fire for recent untrue facts and statements – truthful, whereas just 48 percent said it was untruthful. There is a clear partisan split among respondents, however: Nearly 90 percent of Republicans said the Trump White House is “truthful,” while 77 percent of Democrats said the opposite.
Meanwhile, just 39 percent of respondents said the media – dubbed the “opposition party” by Trump’s White House – is truthful, while 53 percent said the media is dishonest. Sixty-nine percent of Democrats said they trusted the media, compared to the 91 percent of Republicans who labeled it as untruthful. Independents said both the news and the administration are untruthful, with 52 percent distrusting the Trump administration and 47 percent distrusting the media.
The difference seems to be Republican voters’ near unanimity in trusting the God-King and distrusting the media, as compared to Democratic voters’ more varied responses. And of course, unlike ‘fake news’ polls that show the God-King’s approval still tanking, this will be cited as Proof Positive….
“The resistance movement clearly has these folks scared”
At No More Mister Nice Blog, Steve M. offers a different take on how the God-King and his royal court perceive their public standing:
I wandered over to Breitbart just now and discovered this:
Conservative grassroots leaders are planning a series of massive pro-President Donald Trump rallies nationwide, Breitbart News has learned exclusively.
On Feb. 27 and March 4, the rallies – dubbed the Spirit of America Rallies – will spring up nationwide in cities and towns across America.
“These rallies are inclusive, non-partisan, and open to anyone supporting President Trump in his efforts to bring back manufacturing jobs to America, put the security of our nation ahead of political correctness, improve our infrastructure, revitalize the inner cities and secure our nation’s borders,” Debbie Dooley, a national co-founder of the Tea Party movement and a key organizer of the Spirit of America rallies, says in a press release obtained by Breitbart News ahead of its public release.
The resistance movement clearly has these folks scared – the president’s job approval rating is underwater in most polls, the news coverage of the president is deservedly awful, and opponents are getting pretty good press. I don’t know if the pro-Trumpers can really put big crowds together – I have my doubts, especially about February 27, which is a Monday, but we’ll see. In any case, there’s clearly a fear out there that the Trumpers have lost control of the narrative. They can write a lot of executive orders, they can get all their Cabinet picks approved on party-line votes, but we’ve got them on the defensive. I like that.
I think there’s some truth to that analysis. On the other hand, the God-King is paranoid about his ratings and has a constant need for mass adulation. Even if he believed the Emerson College poll (he probably does) and even if his job approval polls were uniformly positive (they aren’t) … I suspect he would still direct “grassroots leaders” to organize these rallies, so long as the media give even the slightest passing attention to the resistance.
And no, I don’t for a moment believe these are truly “grassroots” efforts. Wingnut rallies are always too lavishly funded, and too message-coordinated, to be anything other than top-down spectacles.
As for how many people will turn out, the God-King will doubtless announce these were the biggest and most beautiful rallies in U.S. history … and the Emerson College poll suggests that nine in ten GOP voters will take his word for it, and facts be damned.
