Tonight’s question, greetings, and banter here. (More)

Today the Washington Post’s Dave Weigel outlined Senate and House Republicans’ brutally conservative policy agenda, from gutting Obamacare, the Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform Act, and Consumer Finance Protection Bureau to defunding Planned Parenthood, rolling back federal standards for school lunches, wage rules for federal contractors, and the Paris Climate Accords. Also, Paul Krugman argued that the U.S. is becoming a -stan while Paul Campos said a better parallel may be the caudillo-led ‘populist’ authoritarian tradition of Central and South America. And Josh Marshall pondered a link between burgeoning economic monopolism and rising political-economic polarization.
