Tonight’s question, greetings, and banter here. (More)
Today Federal Reserve Chair Janet Yellen warned President-elect Donald Trump’s proposed $1-trillion infrastructure program, saying it would explode the federal debt at a time of near-full employment and leave the Fed with little fiscal space to address an economic downturn. Also, Trump named radical anti-Islamist Michael Flynn, who was pushed out of the Defense Intelligence Agency for insubordination and abusing his staff in 2014, to replace James Clapper as Director of National Intelligence. New York Magazine’s Jonathan Chait reports that Trump is building a team of racists, while the Washington Post’s Aaron Blake notes that it will be all-but impossible for Senate Democrats to block Trump’s nominees. And a Washington state lawmaker wants to criminalize protests as “economic terrorism.” Are Americans about to get a harsh lesson in white right authoritarianism?
