The faculty said I should give Hillary Clinton’s emails the attention they deserve. Okay….
“The donors did not always get what they wanted”
Last night’s Big Brouhaha was the news that, during the investigation they wrapped up last month, the FBI recovered about 15,000 more emails that were thought to have been deleted from Hillary Clinton’s server. Wingnuts quickly howled that the new emails prove Clinton traded State Department favors for donations to the Clinton Foundation. Or not:
The emails show that, in these and similar cases, the donors did not always get what they wanted, particularly when they sought anything more than a meeting.
But the exchanges, among 725 pages of correspondence from Abedin disclosed as part of a lawsuit by the conservative group Judicial Watch, illustrate the way the Clintons’ international network of friends and donors was able to get access to Hillary Clinton and her inner circle during her tenure running the State Department.
In other words, some Very Famous People – like the Crown Prince of Bahrain and singer/philanthropist Bono – both: (a) donated to the Clinton Foundation at some point in its history; and, (b) met with Clinton at some point during her tenure as Secretary of State.
That’s a scandal if – and only if – you believe no U.S. Secretary of State would have met the Crown Prince of Bahrain, or Bono, unless the Crown Prince or Bono had donated to an international charity founded by the Secretary of State’s husband, a former President of the United States.
Which is to say, it’s a scandal if – and only if – you assume Hillary Clinton is corrupt until and unless an angel with a flaming sword descends on the National Mall to declare her innocence. And if that happened, they’d say she paid off the angel, while meeting with the Pope … or something.
There, I gave the Big Brouhaha the attention it deserves. Now I’ll turn over the keyboard to the BPI Grafix Department….
