Today we take a visit to a couple of videos which shows the number and location of nuclear tests. (More)

This video by Japanese artist Isao Hashimoto is a ghastly graphical animation of the nuclear tests across the planet. It shows a map of the world, and then the location of each detonation. For example, did you know that there were tests in Australia? I didn’t. The total number of tests is also surprising.
This version by Business Insider is more current, and much faster a watch if you prefer…

That was startling. I had no idea there were so many tests. And the nuclear test ban treaty had absolutely no effect. Show how much I know.
Ugh. This is saber rattling raised to a whole new level.
I had that thought too. Certainly the testing of live warheads
stopped, right? But these videos certainly don’t support that thesis.
So what was the ban for? I looked at wikipedia, and it says there are
two ban treaties, the partial test ban treaty, which bans in water,
above ground and atmospheric tests. France and China never signed. It also says there is a full test ban treaty “not in effect” because
several nations haven’t ratified it yet.
Thank you for sharing this, Lake Toba. I knew underground tests had continued, but I had no idea of the scale. I hope sometime soon we learn better….
