“I guess we should get started,” Evil Leader said.

First Henchman raised his hand. “Um … who are we?” (More)

Midday Matinee is our people watching, people doing and people being feature. Join the Woodland Creatures for an afternoon break.

Welcome back to Tuesday’s Tale, a weekly feature where we collaborate to write a story. Previous Tuesday’s Tales include Flossie & Friends and Yawn and Scratch. We follow the basic rules of the “Yes, And” improvisational game – accept everything written so far as part of the story, and add your own paragraph (or so) where the last addition left off – except you needn’t begin your addition with “Yes, and.” I’ll start the story….

“We’re an organization known as The Group,” Evil Leader said, “or maybe a group known as The Organization. The Cartel haven’t finalized that yet.”

“Who are The Cartel?” Second Henchman asked.

“They’re our masterminds,” Evil Leader replied. “At least, that’s what The Circle is calling them right now. They may change their name to The Cabal.”

Femme Fatale looked up from her notes. “The Circle may become The Cabal?”

Evil Leader shook his head. “Sorry. I meant The Circle may change the name of The Cartel to The Cabal.”

“And The Circle are?” First Henchman asked.

“They’re the puppet masters,” Evil Leader said. Second Henchman raised his hand and Evil Leader continued. “No, that’s not their name. Unless they change it. But for now they’re sticking with The Circle. Apparently the focus groups liked it.”

“And who are the focus groups?” Femme Fatale asked.

Evil Leader shrugged. “Just people they brought in, I guess. But they may be The Victims later. You gotta understand, we’re still in the concept stage. You’re all getting in on the ground floor.”

“Actually,” Femme Fatale said, “I rappelled in through the ventilation shaft.”

“But we came in on the ground floor,” First Henchman said, tipping his head toward Second Henchman, who nodded.

“Past the Well Armed Guards in the red shirts,” Second Henchman added.

Evil Leader sighed. “Yeah, they probably won’t last long.”

Have fun!
