Let’s Go to the Video, Part III: Hillary Clinton on Foreign Policy
This week Morning Feature offers video explainers on some of this year’s important issues. Thursday we began with Vox’s Ezra Klein on Donald Trump’s ideology of violence. Yesterday we saw Vox’s Johnny Harris and German Lopez on America’s prescription opioid epidemic. Today we conclude with Hillary Clinton’s speech on counterterrorism and foreign policy.
“We cannot give in to fear”
Predictably, Donald Trump and Ted Cruz treated Tuesday’s attacks in Brussels as a pretext for illegal and even unconstitutional white supremacist policies. Back in December, Hillary Clinton outlined a wiser course:
The simple fact is that we can’t defeat terrorism with “carpet bombing.” Indeed Vox’s Max Fischer explained how ISIS’ territorial losses in Syria and Iraq have driven the group’s attacks on targets in Europe.
Mass killing, torture, and armed occupations of America’s Islamic neighborhoods may make authoritarians feel better, but those policies will not make us safer. Simply, “We cannot give in to fear.”
