Today the Indianapolis Star published a front page op-ed titled “FIX THIS NOW” asking the state legislature to add protection for LGBTs to the state’s anti-discrimination statute, as Utah did earlier this month. In response, Gov. Mike Pence called on the legislature to pass a bill this week clarifying that the RFRA does not allow businesses to discriminate. New York Magazine’s Jonathan Chait explains why backers’ statements and the law’s new language prompted the backlash. As every major GOP 2016 hopeful backs the law, will they back the revision?
