“I’m looking for a pair of slippers,” Rachel said.
Samantha smiled. “You’ve come to the right place. Sexy, fuzzy, or googley-eyed?” (More)
Midday Matinee is our people watching, people doing and people being feature. Join the Woodland Creatures for an afternoon break.
Welcome back to Tuesday’s Tale, a weekly feature where we collaborate to write a story. Previous Tuesday’s Tales include Playoffs! and Upgrade! We follow the basic rules of the “Yes, And” improvisational game – accept everything written so far as part of the story, and add your own paragraph (or so) where the last addition left off – except you needn’t begin your addition with “Yes, and.” I’ll start the story….
“Um,” Rachel said, looking around, “I’m not sure. They’re … for a friend.”
Samantha nodded. “Of course they’re for a friend. No one buys slippers for themselves. So what does your … friend … like?”
“Well,” Rachel said, “lots of things, I guess. When it’s cold, she likes to keep her feet warm. When it’s warm, she likes something warm and light. But with grippy soles, so she doesn’t slip.”
“Does she like heels?” Samantha asked.
Rachel shrugged. “Uh, sometimes. It depends on whether she’s seeing anyone.”
“And is she?” Samantha asked. “Seeing anyone?”
Rachel glanced down. “Not lately. They kinda broke up.”
“Kinda?” Samantha asked.
Rachel nodded. “He left a note saying he was going to look for,” she made air-quotes with her fingers, “‘anyone else.'”
Samantha patted Rachel’s hand. “Ouch.”
Rachel nodded. “Yeah. So now she’s … thinking about stuff. Like does she want to try again with guys or did she ever really … anyway.”
Samantha smiled. “Yes. Slippers. Do you know your friend’s size?”
“About the same as mine,” Rachel said.
