This week I engaged in my least favorite part of local party activism: discussing our upcoming officer elections. Some of our members are, understandably, disappointed with our midterm results. We made measurable progress from 2010 and even 2012, but two of our three local candidates still lost and Gov. Rick Scott was still reelected. He also won our county, albeit by one-quarter his margin from four years ago. In that context, local party elections can become divisive. I hope that won’t happen this year, as our members have formed an effective team who work well together. I’d like to see us build on our successes, and I hope our elections will further that goal.
