Good morning! ::hugggggs::
Good morning! It’s currently a partly cloudy 40 degrees, with a high expected to be around 62. Supposedly a nice day, but given the weather prediction’s accuracy around here, I put it into the “we’ll see” category. Yesterday’s “scattered early morning showers” turned out to be an all day affair, with a pretty heavy cold wind. Not conducive to getting much done, and the really sad part was a check of the radar said that … we weren’t getting rain. The “look out the window” check said we were.
On today’s agenda is filing reports. Yes, I still have to do them, although in a much reduced fashion. I’m also hoping to get about 15 or so bags of concrete, so we can start casting fire ring bases. The budget is apparently still up in the air on some things, so I don’t know. Among the budget issues is just how much field time we’re going to have left. I’m hoping to get a more firm answer today. We need to get back to finishing up the outhouses, which was delayed due to weather. The docks are mostly put away, all we need to do is to tow two out, along with our main working dock, and cable them up. That’s a “sunny calm day” project, not a “whenever we get around to it.”
Cold and rain not conducive to working on outhouses. Or fire rings, I imagine. And if the concrete doesn’t show….
What’s your projection for getting all this stuff done in time? And what happens if you don’t? Because to me right now it’s not sounding very hopeful.
Weather and budget permitting, we’ll be busy out here until the end of October.
Cold wind, rain = a good time to be inside by a warm fire…
Curious here. Do you have volunteer organizations that come and do trail maintenance and other chores? I usually get a group of 6 to 8 in the spring. We give them a free campsite and they work on whatever.
I have signed up through REI and Sierra Club sites. I can see them digging holes for you and maybe carrying the concrete. Might be worth exploring.
Hope you get a calm sunny day soon. If my weather comes your way, you’ll be set.
I didn’t know you could get volunteers this way. That’s very cool! 🙂
I am a community organizer. 🙂
There are, but they work on the main hiking trails, not where we are. There are a whole set of legal requirements around doing it here, so it ends up being “professionals” doing it.

We had an exciting day here yesterday. Youngest son had to take himself to the ER for some minor surgery. The Urgent Care wouldn’t touch it. He’s uncomfortable but is going to be fine, thank goodness.
Hugggs and good morning, everyone!
Such a relief for him and for you. I hope he recovers well and quickly.
Glad your youngest was taken care of. Hope he feels back to normal and comfortable soon.
Yikes, hope all is well now….
I’m glad that the ER was able to take care of your son. I hope he feels better soon.
Thank you all. 🙂
Good Morning. It is absolutely beautiful fall weather and the fall color is magnificent. We have so many evergreens that our color doesn’t have the same intensity as the New England photos. Still with the sun shining even one red maple is a thing of beauty.
My woman’s meeting last night was really fun. An hour at the car place to talk about winter safety and preparedness. The guy was okay (he mostly deals with sales and financing) but the collective knowledge of the women in the group was astonishing. He was trying to show us how to change the windshield wipers. Another grandmother watched him struggle for a bit and then said, “I believe I know how to do this.” She gave nice how-to instructions. We then adjourned to The Boatworks which is a microbrewery and restaurant. Great conversations.

You may remember the MN Republican endorsed candidate for the State Supreme Court who neglected to tell the R endorsing committee about her upcoming trial for drunk driving and resisting arrest. Her opponent leads by 86 points. David Lillehaug is a Democrat and the incumbent. Startling headline for these days of division. Several prominent R’s have endorsed Lillehaug.
Hope all are well!
Glad you had a great time last night. 🙂
Also astonishing that some R’s are supporting the Dem candidate for the Supreme Court. I guess what you can get away with in DC doesn’t go over so well in MN with voters. Very nice lead!
Wiper blade change can be a bear sometimes! Glad you had fun, though… Re: Republican vetting process… I remember when the Wasilla Snowbilly was named as the VP choice by McCrabby, I heard some talking heads on teh TV assuring themselves of the R vetting, and how great it was, and oh, she must be a good candidate, blah, blah, and blah… Heh heh heh…..
A little politics. Sen. Warner leads by 14 points http://fivethirtyeight.com/interactives/senate-forecast/ or maybe about 20 points http://www.newsplex.com/home/headlines/Ads-Could-Ramp-Up-in-Va-Senate-Race-276203321.html
Skelley tells CBS19 that a good signal as to why the race is not very competitive is because not a lot of outside groups have come out to help Gillespie.
This lead is also why the Warner Campaign considers this a base campaign and is concentrating on the Democratic Base. It is nice to be in the position where I can look for campaigns that are asking for national help as a place to spend my time.
There may not be a lot of outside money because it all seems to be coming to Iowa this year. Both Ernst and Braley are financed mainly by outside groups. Of course, I’m more partial to Braley’s money from Sierra Club and other groups than I am of the money coming to Ernst from the Koch Brothers.
Agree with you on where the outside money come from making a difference. A huge difference.
We get some reporting on Iowa’s race here. I shake my head at Ernst and think I see the ghost of Michelle Bachmann. I hope Braley can pull this out.
Great news, Jim. Down here we’re not looking so good, and danged if I can figure out why. I’m hoping things shift a bit over the next few weeks.
And if you want to help nationally, may I suggest Charlie Crist? He needs it. Scott is drowning him with money, and I just don’t get it. Scott is the least liked governor in this state for a long, long time.
It only took ten months, but I finally have a living room that looks like a living room. I took in a couch from the neighboring apartment that was going to be thrown out, and then ordered an easy chair as well. The folding camp chair is now folded and stored in a closet, and the other two chairs are still there, but are no longer the main places to sit. I need a couple of tables and some shelving, and then I’ll have it all done.
As far as weather, we couldn’t ask for better right now. The days are in the 70s, and there is no rain forecast through the weekend. A good way to start the fall.
I’m so happy for you, Glenda. I’ve lived the “folding chair” lifestyle, and while you can do it, it’s not really homey or comfortable. Cheers for you. 🙂 Lots of progress.
Sounds like your weather is wonderful. I’d borrow it, but that wouldn’t be nice, would it. 😉
Having a space that looks and feels like home is so important. Glad you are making progress. 🙂
The Atlantic has an excellent article on domestic abuse that focuses on abuse committed by police officers. While the NFL is in the spotlight the police are two to four times more likely to be abusers and very likely to keep their jobs.

Good morning!
Clear and 49 degrees. Glued a few pipes yesterday, more today mebbe… Wonderful WX here too!
Best, G
I hope the gluing went better for you this time. 🙂 Great about your weather. I’m envious. Rain and mid eighties for the rest of the week.
Better than a hurricane, though! Hah!
Good luck with the pipe project!
