“What’s going on?” Inez asked.

Jane shrugged. “I’m not sure. They sent me here.” (More)

Midday Matinee is our people watching, people doing and people being feature. Join the Woodland Creatures for an afternoon break.

Welcome back to Tuesday’s Tale, a weekly feature where we collaborate to write a story. Previous Tuesday’s Tales include Tinfoil Tuxedos! and Hyperbolic. We follow the basic rules of the “Yes, And” improvisational game – accept everything written so far as part of the story, and add your own paragraph (or so) where the last addition left off – except you needn’t begin your addition with “Yes, and.” I’ll start the story….

“Join the club,” Ken said. “They sent us here too.”

“All of you?” Jane asked.

Lisa nodded. “All of us.”

“They sent me first,” Inez added. She pointed to Ken. “He got here next. Then her. Then you.”

“I see,” Jane said. She held out her hand. “Well, I’m Jane.”

“Inez,” Inez said, shaking Jane’s hand.

Ken waved. “I’m Ken.”

“And I’m Lisa,” Lisa added.

“Hmm,” Jane said. “Inez, Jane, Ken, Lisa.”

Ken shook his head. “It was Inez, Ken, Lisa, Jane.”

“True,” Jane agreed, “but look at our initials. They’re alphabetical.”

A woman walked in. “Is this the right room?”

“Mary?” Jane asked. “Margaret? Melanie? Melinda?”

The woman shook her head. “Michelle. Why?”

Jane nodded. “Just checking a theory.”

“But why did Ken and Lisa get here before you?” Inez said.

Jane shrugged. “I came as soon as I got the message. Well … after I stopped at the ladies’ room.”

“Ahh,” Lisa said. “That must be it.”

“Why are we here?” Michelle asked.

“They sent us,” Ken replied. “In alphabetical order, it seems.”

“But why did they send us here?” Michelle asked.

“They haven’t said yet,” Inez said.

“And what’s more,” Michelle continued, “who are they?”

Have fun!
