Today Charles Koch wrote a Wall Street Journal op-ed that decried his critics as “collectivism” and “character assassination,” what Paul Krugman dubbed the “Fifth Freedom” … from criticism. The Washington Monthly’s Ed Kilgore called the Journal’s op-ed page “the Floating Pity Party for Plutocracy,” and the Washington Post’s Greg Sargent critics have targeted only the Koch’s business practices and political statements. Is it “un-American” to criticize billionaires who want to shred the social safety net … except for themselves?
