Today CNBC reported that billionaire investor Ken Langone wants Pope Francis to back off on capitalism, warning that criticizing income inequality may make it difficult to raise the $180 million to rebuild New York City’s St. Patrick’s Cathedral. Langone said the pope should be told that, when it comes to rich people, “you get more with honey than with vinegar.” Langone also said wealth and capitalism in the U.S. are unlike wealth and capitalism in Argentina, echoing Rep. Paul Ryan’s exceptionalist rebuttal. Will Pope Francis yield to wealthy donors?
