Tonight’s question, greetings, and banter here. (More)

Today TIME named Pope Francis their 2013 “Person of the Year.” Managing editor Nancy Gibbs called Pope Francis “the new voice of conscience,” with “a focus on compassion, along with a general aura of merriment,” and TPM noted that 69% of U.S. adults and 92% of U.S. Catholics approve of him. Jezebel’s Erin Gloria Ryan was pleased, while noting that Pope Francis remains stuck on the issue of female priests, but Glenn Greenwald dissed the choice as “a meaningless award from a meaningless magazine.” Is that whine made with sour grapes?
