“Are you with the Agency?” Dave asked. “Or the Bureau?”
“Neither,” Cal said. “I’m with the Committee.” (More)
Midday Matinee is our people watching, people doing and people being feature. Join the Woodland Creatures for an afternoon break.
Welcome back to Tuesday’s Tale, a weekly feature where we collaborate to write a story. Previous Tuesday’s Tales include Minnie and the Leaf Peepers and Shutdown Storm Gooper. We follow the basic rules of the “Yes, And” improvisational game – accept everything written so far as part of the story, and add your own paragraph (or so) where the last addition left off – except you needn’t begin your addition with “Yes, and.” I’ll start the story….
“Wait,” Ed interrupted. “I thought the Committee was part of the Agency.”
Cal shook his head. “Nope. We’re under the Enterprise, within the Directorate.”
“Hmm,” Dave said, thinking that, as head of the Directorate, he should have heard about this before.
“I guess your people keep secrets even from you,” Cal said. “But yes, you should have heard about this before.”
Dave held up a hand. “Wait a minute. How did you know I was thinking that? Did the Enterprise figure out that brain emissions decoding device?”
Harry laughed. “They’re still working on the BEDD? We gave up on it at the Hoplite.”
“Okay, enough,” Bob said. “What the hell is the Hoplite?”
“They split off from the Foundation,” Frank said. “Right after we set up the Group.”
“And before the Bureau established the Institute,” Irving added. “You should have known about that, Bob.”
Harry shrugged. “It’s all Greek to me.”
“Let’s go back,” Dave said. “Cal never explained how he knew what I was thinking.”
“Oh, that’s easy,” Cal said. “The Narrator said so.”
“Now who the hell is the Narrator?” Bob asked.
I am, I said.
