Today a military court sentenced Bradley Manning to 35 years in prison for turning over hundreds of thousands of classified documents to WikiLeaks. Under military law, Manning’s sentence will be reviewed by Major General Jeffrey Buchanan, who cannot increase the sentence but could reduce it. With credit for time served, Manning will be eligible for parole in 8 years. Should President Obama heed criticisms from the American Civil Liberties Union, Amnesty International, and Reporters Without Borders and commute Manning’s sentence?
