This week I attended my county Democratic Party steering committee meeting. Several of our working committee chairs discussed their volunteer recruiting efforts, and I hope their energy, enthusiasm, and success will inspire all of our members at tonight’s Executive Committee meeting. I also spoke at one of my county’s Democratic clubs about our 2014 voter outreach campaign plans.

First on that agenda will be an upcoming special election to fill an open Florida state house seat. The seat came open when Gov. Rick Scott appointed a Republican representative to serve out the term of our county tax collector, a Democrat who passed away earlier this year. We have recruited a strong candidate for that seat and hold a slender edge in registered voters in that district, thanks in large part to a very active OFA community team in 2012. The leaders of that OFA team have since joined our county DEC, and they will spearhead our effort to turn the seat blue.
