Today Sens. Jeff Merkley and Roy Wyden (both D-OR) filed a bill to declassify key FISA court rulings. Among the bill’s co-sponsors is Sen. Al Franken (D-MN), who said he as briefed on and is comfortable with the PRISM program. But the founder the conservative website Judicial Watch and a Philadelphia couple have filed a class action lawsuit to stop the program, and today Google sought permission to publish aggregate data on FISA requests the company receives. Would greater transparency ease the concerns of the government’s critics?
