Today President Obama appointed U.N. Ambassador Susan Rice to serve as his National Security Adviser. This post does not require Senate confirmation and, as The New Republic’s Michael Shaffer writes, the Beltway Greek Chorus described it as “defiant.” WaPo’s Ed Rogers said the appointment “shows that President Obama is more interested in showcasing his grievances than he is in providing good governance.” As Maddow Blog’s Steve Benen wrote, Ambassador Rice received no apologies for last fall’s smear campaign. Will she now?
