I have worked for the opponents of Rep. Michelle Bachmann in every race she has run including two for the State Senate. At first I thought I was dreaming when I heard she was not seeking reelection. (More)

Midday Matinee is our people watching, people doing and people being feature. Join the Woodland Creatures for an afternoon break.

To be clear, I meant the question of “Am I dreaming?” literally. I had fallen asleep listening to Minnesota Public Radio on my iPod mini. Usually the ear buds fall out. This morning at around 4 a.m.I heard “Representative Michele Bachmann announces she will not seek reelection.” I was jolted awake and wondered if I had heard what I thought I heard or if it was a dream.

Who announces something like this in the middle of the night? I hit the coffee button and booted up my computer. Her announcement was for real.

I have more questions than answers at this point. I am writing at 8 a.m. Who knows what we’ll all know when this posts at 1 p.m.?

Last week she bought air time and ran a campaign video for 2014. Bachmann was touting her efforts to repeal Obamacare. Local press thought it was an early and aggressive move and that perhaps it was tied to a poll showing Jim Graves with a slight lead but still within the margin of error. Others mentioned “multiple investigations into Bachmann’s presidential campaign” including by the FBI.

If I was to be awakened in the middle of the night, this sure beats the phone call bearing such bad news that the caller could not wait until morning. I jokingly said on a BPI Campus Chatter comment, “Okay then! It’s a new day. If her announcement was breakfast, I wonder what’s for lunch?”

TRS had the perfect reply, “I know what would make the perfect lunch – Can’tor, Boehner, and McConnell making the same announcement!”

That would definitely make this a dream day!
