This week I joined other members of my county Democratic Executive Committee and our local Democratic Clubs in calling our Florida state senators to protest Senate Bill 600. Labeled an “election reform” bill, it would create new obstacles for Vote By Mail in Florida and would not improve House Bill 7103, which passed on the first day of the legislative session. While House Bill 7013 is not ideal, it does offer several important improvements including expanded early voting, automatic update of voter registration rolls when a voter changes driver’s license data, and notification when a Vote By Mail ballot is rejected so voters can correct ballot deficiencies at the Supervisor of Elections office. We urged our state senators to follow the lead of the state house and make it easier – not harder – for registered Floridians to vote.
