This week I researched a fundraising program for my local Democratic Party, and discussed a video publicity program with the chair of that committee. We also discussed our members’ participation in an upcoming county commission meeting on the gun show background check loophole, and a possible demonstration to support federal gun safety laws at the office of our U.S. House Representative. I’m thrilled that so many of our members are proposing action programs, both to press elected officials on legislative issues and to build our base for 2014 and beyond.
I attended our precinct meeting. Supervisor McCay gave his Civic meeting presentation. We have had progress on rebuilding the local Mall. The project is five years behind schedule because of financing. The County is expecting a 10% drop in income because of the sequester. This means a 10% drop in services like schools, road repair, and police hours. Construction is up but it is taking time to reassemble the building permit team. The team had been reassigned to other jobs when construction fell during the latest financial problems.
Thank you for your activism, Jim! 😀 Sounds like your group are busy and working to make government work better for We the People!
I went to a phone bank on Thursday night to get people to call their Congressman, Jon Runyun, about where he stands on universal background checks and that he should support it. We were telling them to call on Friday, as OFA was having a day of action to stop gun violence. They were also calling about a rally to be held outside of his office. I didn’t go to the rally, because I had another appointment.
