The Kansas state house are weighing a bill that would require the state’s teachers to “provide information to students of scientific evidence which both supports and counters a scientific theory or hypothesis.” The bill, based on a model by the American Legislative Exchange Council or ALEC, specifies climate change as a “controversial” theory. In fact the scientific evidence is overwhelming and almost all scientists who research climate change agree it is caused by human activity. Should science teachers be forced to address political controversies?
