You may be relieved that the election is over and that Florida has finished counting. Well, Arizona is still counting. (More)

Last night was what was billed as “the last volunteer conference call.” I don’t believe it for a minute simply because I am not done nor are President Obama and the Democrats in Congress. The conference call began with a list of states and their efforts. Early voter registration was summarized in many states. It was a wonderful shout out to the 30,000 volunteers on the call representing a fraction of our collective efforts. I won’t give out the statistics just in case they are confidential, but good job everyone, everywhere.

At some point in the call a voice came on the line;

“This is the White House operator,” said the voice. “Mitch is this just you and me?”

Mitch replied, “No it is you and me and over 30,000 volunteers on the line.”

The voice says, “Okay then, just a minute.”

Then President Obama came on the line. “Hi everybody, “he said. He spoke of being grateful and impressed. He said that in the entire history of the country this was the biggest ever grassroots effort. Florida and North Carolina together registered over 300K new voters.

Obama said, “You showed America that things don’t have to be the way they’ve always been… America is never going to be the same.”

Okay, you can probably guess that the President said a whole lot more as did Mitch.

The end of the call was a request to fill out the survey that was coming. If you get one in your inbox please fill it out. It will help the campaign get better.

The second comment was to go to to get a heads up on grassroots activity for the ‘fiscal cliff’ aka (h/t Ezra Klein) the austerity cliff.

I’m just guessing here, but I am thinking some more phone banking might be in our futures.
