Last night House Energy and Commerce Chair Fred Upton (R-MI) hinted that at least some Republicans may finally be ready to end centuries-old subsidies for the oil and gas industries. And today Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-NY) called on Democrats not to cut tax rates at pace with loopholes, saying “It would be a huge mistake to take the dollars we gain from closing loopholes and put them into reducing rates for the highest income brackets, rather than into reducing the deficit.” Will Republicans accept progressive reform in President Obama’s second term?
