Good September morning!
We have a damp 74 degrees here today. Autumn is my favorite time of year. I live for this! I’m looking forward to frosty mornings, apple cider, and wood cutting.
Compost pile @ The Farm is all done, and busy getting watered. It’s another personal best, measuring about 30′ X 35′ and oh, mebbe 5′ high. As soon as the rain moves on, and the soil dries out, will give it a turn and see if it’s heating……
Had the tree trimmers here for about an hour yesterday. I will pit them against any 2 year old as far as mess-making. Sheesh. Like most craftsmen, was glad to see them come, and glad to see them go. Only got the mess partially cleaned up account the rain showers that moved in. We’ll take the rain, good trade!
There’s a double row of beets, and a double row of spinach, peeking through the garden soil, both in raised beds. I also sowed some carrots and lettuce yesterday, right before the rain……
Today is “Erection Day” over @ Kenny-Wenny’s place. …….We’ll begin to assemble his metal building. I am guessing inside, more rain in the offing….
Have a decent day, eh?
Autumn for me usually means…OK, get serious, the election is only sixty-something days away. I’m thinking, after this year, time to roll back the activism a bit. I’m 64 and tons of stuff left to do. Playing golf is a good break, but, there’s more out there to do before I kick the bucket.
I can understand your feeling, Mike. And if we can take this election, give the Dems a majority, we should be set for long-term progressive government. What Obama is achieving should start to be felt between 2014 and 2016, and that will make all the difference.
You should have more time to enjoy life. You’ve earned it. Hugs!
Oh, do I miss autumns. Enjoy this weather extra just for me, Gardener! Good about the rain, too.
Have fun with the erector set. 🙂 I guess it’s hard to rue the rain after this summer, even if it gets in the way right now.
No complaints from me. We need a good soaking…… 🙂
*studiously avoids commenting on your name for Kenny-Wenny’s shed construction project* 😉
Glad to hear the compost pile is growing well. Will it get stiff once the rain passes, or stay limp?
Good morning! ::hugggggs::
Your avoidance technique could use a bit more study, IMO 😉 😉
Pile ought to begin heating, will then be “turned” with a tractor and loader every 2-3 days until it’s done…… Is the California 21 day “hot” compost method……..
And we all know, when yer hot, yer hot!
I’m actually looking forward to winter this year – hoping it reduces the tick population significantly. Although, I have to admit, autumn is my favorite time of year.
Good morning! It’s currently a warm 56 degrees here, and it’s supposed to be a gorgeous weekend. The traffic has been extremely heavy, so I gather that there’s going to be a lot of good business in the towns. Lots of chicken barbecues, a pig roast, and a few concerts are scheduled. I’m going to be holed up in the woods for the most part, so I’ll miss some of it.
I went home on Wednesday, and discovered that my computer didn’t work. The power supply crapped out on it. Which meant a search for computer tech shops in the area, and unfortunately, the nearest one was 75 miles away. A phone call saw me driving there only to find out that it wasn’t the right part. 😥 So, I have one on order, which should arrive next week. It’s one of the bad sides of being up here, you may know what you need to buy, but the places you can get it are a long ways away.
I did have a long conversation with my boss, though. I got approved for the projects, and I’m getting to keep at least one person, although the other two are “up in the air.” I made a pretty strong case for my newest staffer, he’s the one who’s the hardest worker. I’ll find out next week where things stand with him. I also got tagged to do a report. 😥 Apparently one bunch of “advocates” 🙄 are having a meeting with him and two other bosses about what they’d like to see here. My comment to my boss was “they’re loving this place to death,” because they’re not “environmentally friendly,” and their “advocacy” is more along the lines of “we’d like it this way for our convenience.” 🙄 So, I have to write up all of that for him to take into the meeting. This is why I try to stay away from HQ, I always get tagged for more paperwork. 😆
“……stay away from HQ.”
Always good advice! 😉
I usually stay as far away from there as I can, because for some reason, every time I walk in the door I end up getting tagged for various things, or caught up in some long, involved discussions when all I really wanted to do was drop off or pick up something and get out the door. In this case, I did have to go in because a) I needed a computer to approve the payroll; b) I wanted to make the case to my boss about the staff; and c) I had to pick up some items.
Norbrook, did I read recently that Gov Cuomo set aside a huge amount of acreage in the Adirondacks from development? Only glanced the headline and read a few paragraphs.
Yes, he did. It’s part of the Finch-Pruyn (a paper company) properties which the Nature Conservancy bought. There’s a big tract of it near me which makes contiguous a couple of sections of state land.
Unfortunately, the state budget does not include funding for extra Forest Rangers, ECO’s, or trail crews. 😥
Well, I think I detected some good news buried in there, the part about getting to do your projects. And maybe keeping the guy you want.
Sorry about the computer hassles, though. I don’t know where you ordered your part from, but my son swears by New Egg online. Things seem to come in awfully fast, and he says they stand by what they sell, no hassles.
And yeah, I guess you should avoid HQ. 😉
New Egg is good. I usually use Tiger Direct. I used to live about an hour from their main warehouse in Illinois.
I like New Egg myself, but this particular power supply (it’s a Dell computer) was ordered from a factory dealer through Amazon. It’s a definite exact replacement, so I know everything works. That, and I got it pretty cheap.
The problem is that no matter who I deal with, I still have to wait a few days to get any parts. The nearest “full service” computer stores are down in Albany, which is just a quick 90 miles away. 🙄 Any other techs closer generally have to order the parts themselves, and since I still have most of my professional accounts active, and know what I’m doing, I might as well just skip the middleman. 😉
Back in Ye Goode Olde Dayes, you could tell the boss was in the area by the flurry of activity at each desk, lest he say “Ahh, since you’re not busy….” I guess you walked into that at the office. 😉
Good morning! ::hugggggs::
Good morning, everyone. 🙂
I didn’t expect this week to wind up making me feel so good, but after the Ryan fact-checking spree by the media, the amount of humor about the “empty chair” and the fact that the Romney campaign is trying to distance itself from just about everything… Hah! And they didn’t even get a “convention bump.”
And of course, as Romney is exposed to more and more of the spotlight, the truths are starting to come out. Good.
On other matters, I wrote like a demon this week, and the urge to keep on writing is strong. I’ll take it. 🙂
Hugggs to all!
I love this post, Winter. Keep that muse close at hand.
Thanks, Mike. 🙂 I’m trying.
And in other good news this week, the courts seem to disagree about the damage being done with voter ids and restricted early voting hours. It’s not proving so easy to take away voting rights.
I agree with your assessment, winterbanyan. Despite the massive political sewerage leak in RNC, there was a surprising amount of good news this week. And next week is our turn…. 😀
Good morning! ::hugggggs::
I loved the response by the Obama campaign to Eastwood’s rather … bad … attempt at humor.
I have to say, that as an attempt to “reintroduce” Mitt Romney to the electorate, the convention was a miserable failure. Outside of a few conservative publications, I have yet to see too many reviews that say much good about the whole affair.
It is a short leap from the empty chair to Romney “the empty suit”. Just sayin’.
A leap in another direction takes you to the Invisible Man.
It was time to have a serious discussion with my grandson. It happened over lunch at the Atlantis Aquarium in Riverhead.
Grandson: Pop Pop, who wins, a mountain lion, or a tiger?
This death match pairing went on for quite a while; finally, I thought I stumped him.
Pop Pop: OK, Zach, who wins — Darth Vader or Luke Skywalker?
Grandson: Pop Pop, You know about Darth Vader and Luke Skywalker? Wow!
Pop Pop: Yes, but I’m weak on the Avengers.
Hah! That’s so funny, Mike. Better race to catch up on those Avengers. Who are they anyway? 😉
Hrmm … I’ll take Skywalker over Vader, in the 6th, by submission. 😉
As for The Avengers, I think we’re about to learn about them here at Casa Crissie, as the DVD comes out soon and The Person In Charge Of Choosing Movies Based On Comic Books has already announced that it’s a must-see.
Good morning! ::hugggggs::
BTW, there’s an absolutely top-notch article in the September 3 New Yorker. “The Throwaways.”
“Police enlist young offenders as confidential informants. But the work is high-risk, largely unregulated, and sometimes fatal.”
Very interesting!
I’ll check it out when I get a chance, Gardener. Thanks for mentioning it. I suspect I’m not going to be thrilled.
Thank you for that heads-up, Gardener. I’ll definitely give it a look.
Good morning! ::hugggggs::
Good morning!
A personal Today in History – 33 years ago today (and Saturday at that), Mr. W and I were married. We’ll be putting off celebrating this year for a week or two or three.
Congratulations on the anniversary, Glenda. Sorry you have to put off the celebration, but you’re going to have SO much more fun later. 🙂
Happy day to both of you!
Congratulations on the anniversary, and I’m sure you’ll enjoy the celebration so much more once your surgery has healed…. 😉
Good morning! ::hugggggs::
Happy Anniversary Glenda and Mr. W. I can see why waiting a bit to celebrate makes sense. 🙂
Not so fast…………..!
He married you WITH a gallbladder, right? No fair to be short a part and expect to celebrate…….
Hmmmmm…… Now where’s that appendix?
Good Morning. I spent time sitting outside last night watching the blue moon ease up through the pines. I winked at it for Neil Armstrong. Thanks for the comment on that Norbrook.
My camp ground was full by 2:00 and I spent most of the afternoon and evening telling people where else they might camp. There seems to be the “last chance of the season” camping fever. It was 40 degrees this morning and I sold lots and lots of firewood yesterday.
Add me to the list of people who love fall.
Glady! 🙂
Sounds like you’re having a busy Labor Day weekend, addisnana. I’m glad people are enjoying an end-the-summer getaway. Of course here in South Blogistan, an end-of-summer getaway happens around Thanksgiving…. 😉
Good morning! ::huggggggs::
How lovely to sit there and watch the moon rise. 🙂 I’m glad you could do it, addisnana. And yes, it’s a great time to get out and about…if you have autumn. 😉
