Today French voters rejected the austerity policies of Nicolas Sarkozy’s conservative party in favor of Socialist Party leader Francois Hollande. Hollande campaigned on higher taxes, especially for the wealthy, to pay for stimulus spending and reduce the deficit. Greek voters also turned against the current austerity policies, although the results for a government are not yet clear. Did these elections signal a shift away from supply-side economic policies?
