Today on Fox News, Geraldo Rivera said “I think the hoodie is as much responsible for Trayvon Martin’s death as George Zimmerman was.” Guardian writer Cara Kulwicki noted that women often blame rape victims based on what the victims were wearing. Kulwicki suggested the women’s motive was to assert control by avoiding a threat, but argued this distracts the discussion from the attacker’s violent aggression. Is discussing personal safety part of – or a way to avoid – discussing public safety?
