Pooties are often better than the news. (More)
Many of you probably already know this, but in case some of you don’t, a few words:
Calico cats are a genetic variant of the red (orange) color gene that cannot be inherited. Calicos occur in many breeds, their coat patterns can show almost any variation. Apart from their many colors, calicos are also distinctive because their coat patterns vary from side to side and each color of fur tends to be a different length.
Most that survive to adulthood are females, because almost all calico males suffer health issues that prevent them from reaching adulthood. Those males that do are usually sterile. All attempts to breed calicos have failed. In many cultures a calico cat is considered to be a good luck talisman: sailors prefer them for ships’ cats, and the Chinese believe they bring wealth.
