This week I attended my local Democratic Executive Committee meeting, where our county Supervisor of Elections discussed changes in Florida registration and voting laws. He is a Republican, but did not defend and does not practice the GOP view on voting. In fact, he was one of many county SOEs who publicly challenged this year’s statutes that made registration and voting more difficult. Our DEC also discussed two worrisome county development plans and how we can most effectively challenge them. Most important, we welcomed more new members and will begin training them as precinct leaders.
If you are not already active in your local Democratic Party, please contact them and volunteer. While Organizing for America will work hard for President Obama in 2012, your local Democratic Party should form the core of organization, training, and outreach for Democratic candidates and progressive issues at every level of government.
