Today in history, greetings, and social banter here. (More)

Cicero launched the first of his Phillipics on Marc Antony, but not today (44 BCE). Also, the Department of Treasury was created (1789), Ohio’s Oberlin College was founded (1833), Vice President Theodore Roosevelt said “Speak softly and carry a big stick” at the Minnesota State Fair (1901), and Japan signed the instrument of surrender ending World War II (1945). And the CBS Evening News switched a half-hour format (1963).

All of that happened on September 2nd. Somehow, last Friday’s Campus Chatter included the today-in-history for September 6th. So if you want to know what happened today in history, follow the link. You can also check your Bippiescopes and see if they matched your weekend better than the today-in-history matched the date. Oops….
