On Monday, Standard and Poor (S&P) downgraded the US’s long-term rating from stable to negative. House Majority Leader Eric Cantor (R-VA) claims that is means that the government needs to slash spending. Others claim that it means that the government needs to end gridlock. What will be the effects of this S&P rating shift?
