An Indiana assistant attorney general tweeted advocacy for using ‘live ammunition’ against protesters in Wisconsin. His employer, after an investigation, fired him saying “as public servants we are held by the public to a higher standard”. Many people in public and private life use online social media. Under which circumstances should statements in “private online forums” be grounds for dismissal?
