Today conservatives were outraged that civic activists have set up a voter registration booth near the site where Michael Brown was shot. Law professor Dorothy Brown wrote last week that voting, not rioting, is the path to taking power, but Missouri GOP chief Matt Wills called the registration booth “not only disgusting but completely inappropriate,” and Rep. Paul Ryan (R-WI) said no one should “capitalize on this tragedy with your own policy initiatives.” But with lingering mistrust of police in black communities, isn’t voter engagement the best response?
