Tonight’s question, greetings, and banter here. (More)
President Obama committed a Sci Fi faux pas today with the phrase “Jedi mind meld.” NPR’s Mark Memmott thought the president meant Star Wars “Jedi mind tricks,” while Star Trek legend Leonard Nimoy insisted “Only a Vulcan mind meld would be effective on this Congress.” The Atlantic‘s Esther Zuckerman said the president “just lost the support of both Star Wars and Star Trek fans.” When argued with Republicans for 830 years you have, will your metaphor anti-metaphor reactor be giving it all she’s got, Captain?

Predictably, the White House hopped all over that meme with this gem. The URL wh.gov/jedimindmeld goes to the White House page on the sequester.

Of course, the sequester is a serious issue. I second the Squirrel’s prediction that the sequester will continue until Fall 2014, perhaps except for the defense cuts, and that the only way to end it will be for Democrats to retake the House in 2014.
The idea that President Obama could “lead” them to compromise to avert the sequester presumes a Republican Party that care more about the nation than they do about power. I do not believe that. I think the GOP’s bottom line is this: “If we can’t run this country our way, we’ll do whatever we can to make sure there’s no country left to run.”

One of the best comments I saw was that he meant to say “I’m not a rocket surgeon, Jim.”
Seriously, in all that, it’s desperate looking for something to nitpick on to draw attention from the substance.
And no, I don’t think he’s lost the sci-fi fans.

If there was another planet to leave for and the TSA lines for screening weren’t too long and there weren’t any Republicans there, I might take off.
