Campus Question – February 18, 2013

Tonight’s question, greetings, and banter here. (More)

Tonight at 9pm, MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow will host the documentary Hubris: Selling the Iraq War, based on the 2007 book by David Corn and Michael Isikof. The MSNBC documentary includes new information declassified since the book’s publication, such as Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld’s talking points on finding a pretext to invade Iraq. MSNBC interviewed Isikof on what we still don’t know, and he offers further analysis in a separate article. Will you watch Hubris tonight?

Since I don’t get MSNBC on my cable, I’ll have to wait until it’s available on the internet. But, yes, I do plan on watching it. It’s been my opinion for quite some time, in fact while it was going on, that the Bush administration was looking for an excuse to go into Iraq.

I’ll definitely watch it … at least until I start watching the insides of my eyelids. I run on Squirrel Standard Time, but I’ll try to stay awake for it. :)

This is an important story, and one that the media have never fully confronted. Rather than treating it as a factual story with an evidence-based focus, the media have largely treated the selling of the Iraq War – and their role in that tragedy – as a political story with a partisan focus. I’m grateful that Isikof, Corn, Maddow, and the folks at MSNBC are willing to examine the evidence.

Of course I will be watching! I hope that it is required homework for social studies classes.
