Tonight’s question, greetings, and banter here. (More)
Today President Obama noted a fundamental fact about immigration: “A lot of folks forget that most of us used to be them. [...] Unless you’re one of the first Americans, a Native American, you came from some place else.” The president outlined a four-point plan: strengthened border security, improved employment laws, a pathway to earned citizenship, and streamlined legal immigration. Yet most House Republicans come from very white districts, and worry more about primaries than immigrants. Will sensible immigration reform pass in 2013?

Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) – who was born in Canada – has “deep concerns” about letting undocumented workers gain citizenship.
That would be the same Sen. Cruz who did not serve in the Canadian or U.S. military, but said President Obama’s nominees John Kerry and Chuck Hagel – both of whom volunteered to serve in Vietnam and received five Purple Hearts between them – are “less than ardent supporters” of the U.S. military.
Media whip-counters say there are probably enough votes to pass immigration reform in both the Senate and the House, but it will be razor thin in both chambers. Add this to the list of topics where we grassroots progressive Democratic activists will need to stay … active.

Cruz is supposed to be a “rising star,” but the problem is that the same idiots who constitute the birthers are turning their sights on various brown Republicans as well these days. He may have a sudden awakening around that point.

I hope that we will see sensible immigration reform but these are early days in this round. I expect the Republicans to either find a ‘leader’ or to completely split apart. Now, my money if I was a betting person would be on the big schism(s). This is not a messaging problem for them but a values problem. It is very hard to cover up pure hatred with a snappy slogan.

I don’t know if sensible immigration reform will pass in 2013, but I do think some form of it will.

We’d better pass decent reform this year, but I think a lot of details will need ironing out…. This could be haggled over idefinitely while the GOP claim to be trying.
I don’t trust this.
