Tonight’s question, greetings, and social banter. (More)
President Obama has nominated Mary Jo White to be the first former prosecutor as head of the SEC. Will White’s lack of connection to Wall Street send shivers through the world of investment banking? Will she be able to change the culture of the good old boys club enough to make their next clubhouse a federal penitentiary? Or is White the right woman at the wrong time? White promised to “to protect investors and to ensure the strength, efficiency and the transparency of our capital markets.” Will that help the public believe in financial reform?

I think Ms. White will an effective SEC Chair, and I’m glad President Obama nominated her. Of course, that means Republicans will be outraged, outraged they’ll say. Yeah. Whatever.

Ms. White did successfully prosecute John Gotti and the 1993 World Trade Center bombers. The CNN article thinks she is too late for prosecution because the statute of limitations for the 2008 crash are running out. Makes me laugh. I fully expect Wall Street will find some new ways to innovate that will require White’s attention. I hope when that happens that “Club Pen” sees some new ‘guests.’
