Tonight’s question, greetings, and banter here. (More)
Although Speaker Boehner is still demanding that President Obama propose the spending cuts Republicans want, and the White House is refusing to play that game, WaPo‘s Ezra Klein reports that a budget deal looks likely … and the GOP are shifting their plans to a debt ceiling showdown next year. TPM‘s Josh Marshall has started a watch for what he calls The Mother Of All Government Shutdowns and CNN‘s Tom Cohen reports “Republicans are threatening a political war.” So what else is new?

Also, Michigan Governor Rick Snyder (R) signed the so-called ‘right-to-work’ a few minutes ago. The Squirrel opined on the issue today in Furthermore! Democratic activists and unions are not sure what next steps they have available, but they’re not going to roll over and take this without a political and legal challenge.

As for Republicans in Congress “threatening political war” … really … what’s the news in that? They’ve been waging partisan political warfare for the past four years and show no sign of changing their strategy. HuffPo‘s Sam Stein and Ryan Grim report that President Obama wants a budget deal because he wants more stimulus spending to boost the economy. He also wants a deal that avoids what Paul Krugman called “Operation Rolling Tantrum,” the very “political warfare” Republicans are now committing themselves to wage.
I’m not sure that good a deal is possible, but I hope the president can make it happen. I’m very tired of the GOP’s serial hostage-taking….

Ooooo! The Republicans are threatening political war? Funny, but that’s what they’ve been doing the past few years. Note the major yawns coming from the Democrats, along with “bring it.”

Today between the links in the question; Scalia’s comments somehow equating murder and homosexuality, the Mess in Michigan with what looks like the 1920′s, and HSBC’s fine without prosecution the news is making me sick. SICK! SICK!
Is today one of those clusters of bad things that Crissie wrote about in Morning Feature? Well I am ready for a different kind of cluster…..tomorrow would be a fine day for a progressive cluster to break out in the news. Until then, I’ll just be breathing.

In the military we called it a “cluster situation.” As in, “Boy that was a foul up. Didn’t take long to turn into a cluster situation.”
