Things We Did This Week – November 19-25, 2012

Please share your stories of offline political activism here. (More)

This week what I did was what I did not do: shop at Walmart. That wasn’t much of a change, as I don’t shop at Walmart anyway. But we usually do our grocery shopping at Sam’s Club, which is owned by the same company, and we declined to shop there this weekend as well. I also contributed to the Corporate Action Network, Fred Whispered with relatives and neighbors in support of Walmart workers, and took extra time to show my appreciation for the retail workers I met while grocery shopping. And although it was online, I also filled out the OFA survey asking for our input on how to put the data, skills, and organization of the Obama campaign to best use over the coming months and years.

I wrote emails to my Senators and Representative on the fiscal negotiations and another set on respecting the worker’s rights (EFCA).

I also subbed for the BPI Squirrel as a roving reporter. I’ve gotten to meet several members of the faculty/student body in person and can happily report that we are a wonderful group of people in the real space world. What a treat!

Thank you for your activism, addisnana. I hope EFCA gets another look in the new Congress, although I’m not even cautiously optimistic. In 2009 Senate Majority Leader Reid couldn’t find even 50 votes for it – when there were 58 Senate Democrats – and see no chance of it passing in the GOP-controlled House.

Thank you for filling in on my roving reporter duties. I’d love to visit the Official BPI Garden of Envy, but I think the Gardener might mistake me for one of my cousins stopping by to shop raid his vegetables.

      Good day and good nuts.

My main contribution during this holiday week was to fill out an OFA survey asking us what we would be willing to continue to volunteer on. And I sent off some e-mails about the fiscal cliff, one of which may go into limbo as I have been redistricted, which means my current rep won’t listen and my new rep may not know who I am. Although I tried to make it clear. ;)

Thank you for your activism, winterbanyan. I hope our elected representatives will remember the “representative” part and not just the “elected” part … and listen to our concerns about the fiscal austerity cliff negotiations.
